Orji, Chidi Paul, Ph.D. & Nwagbara, Rufus Godswill,

ABSTRACT

In his theory of the free development of individuality, Mill focused on the preservation of individual liberty as an inherent value in democratic societies. The examination in this essay will focus on John Stuart Mill's Conception of the Free Development of Individuality. The method of critical analysis will be used in this research. This can be used in x-ray study by the researcher. Individual liberty is undervalued in society, and Mill's view on it shows how it might be used to change things. This is demonstrated by Mill's position on the subject. Mill attacked mass mediocrity and majority tyranny as serious threats to individuality and liberty in order to address the question of individual liberty. Mill reminds the government that a free society and individual flourish best in that setting. As indicated by Mill, liberty is beneficial in and of itself because it fosters the development of a morally upright, intellectual, and compassionate person. Understanding the collectivity required for the expansion and development of the state is crucial for having a viable democratic framework. This study acknowledges that a person is the foundation of society. According to the article, for Mill, being unique meant having the capacity for responsible and critical thought. It represented personal growth and exercising one's free will. John Stuart Mill stresses the value of religious, moral, and political freedom for the evolution of humanity
